Touchstone is a weekly folk music radio program on CKDU and heard live at 88.1 FM in Halifax/Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on Saturday mornings, 10 to noon.

Hello, I'm Bev Lamb and I've been host of the program since July 1985 -- I think it's the longest-running folk music radio program in Atlantic Canada.

Many thanks to all who have pledged donations for Touchstone, during CKDU's Annual Public Funding Drives. It's wonderful to get your support.

My 25th anniversary program aired on July 17, 2010

David Francey and Bev LambGuests over the years have included David Francey (on left), Rosalie Peppard, Lennie Gallant, Connie Kaldor, Ed McCurdy, Bonnie Ste-Croix, Ian Foster, Norma MacDonald, Ron Hynes, Maria Dunn, etc.

CKDU is the campus/community radio station at Dalhousie University and is the only alternative radio station in the Halifax area. It's on the top floor of the Student Union Building. Here is the location.

CKDU increased its output to over 3,000 watts on Feb 14, 2006 (changing from 97.5 FM, which it had from 1985). The station can also be heard world-wide on the internet at www.ckdu.ca, and archives can be heard in real-time or downloaded.

Nancy and David Schandall listen to Touchstone on their radio at home in First Peninsula, just outside Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.

To download or stream any CKDU show in the archives, go here. Then go to 'Program Archives' and enter what times you want. You can right-click to save the file or left-click to hear it at that moment.

When putting in the times, make the show 3 hours long, start at 10 am, take 20 minutes off the beginning, and 10 minutes off the end! When playing it back, you should find out that the show starts at the proper time, or soon after.

On Feb 1, CKDU reached its 30th Anniversary since going FM. Eek... my 30th is on July 18!

What's Next?
As of Sun Feb 15, 2015, I don't know! I'm taking a few weeks off for personal reasons and I don't know exactly when I'll be back. Hopefully soon.

Because I was delayed getting to the station last week, I will finish my profile of Ewan MacColl, which includes an interview aired on BBC 2 and some songs from Peggy Seeger. Also a poem she wrote for him, which she spoke at her 70th birthday concerrt (she's 80 next June).

Sat Oct 25, 2014:
A tribute to English folk singer Ewan MacColl, who died 25 years ago on Oct 22, 1989. He was an influential songwriter, communist, labour activist, actor, poet, playwright and record producer.
He married Peggy Seeger, wrote First Time I Ever Saw Your Face and lived in my home county of Kent, not far from where I worked and went to Art School.
