Walter Kemp

On Saturday Sept 8 at 8 am on CKDU 88.1 FM, Dr. Walter Kemp's weekly program Saturday Morning Musical Box, took the form of celebrating the 30th Anniversary of his arrival in Halifax.

After ten years at Waterloo Lutheran University (now Wilfrid Laurier), where he founded and chaired its Music Department, Dr. Kemp came to Halifax in the Fall of 1977 to become Chair of the Dalhousie Music Department and Director of the Dalhousie Chorale.

In Saturday's show, he included reminiscences and played recordings of the music and musicians he left behind in Waterloo, and gave a picture in words and music of the Nova Scotia that welcomed him three decades ago.

Walter Kemp first opened his Saturday Morning Musical Box in February 1985, the weekend that CKDU began broadcasting as campus/community radio, and his show has been a weekly feature ever since.
